The Journey of a Making Me Child in Primary School
…begins with an assembly to learn how our Programme will help them care for their mental health just as they care for their physical health.
Our classroom-based resources enable our Making Me child to highlight their emotional state to their class teacher when they arrive in school which helps to promote a positive, nurturing relationship between them.
Each week children watch a video or listen to a story which explores different feelings and our Making Me child learns how to be calm through a short mindfulness exercise. The different versions of our storybooks are written to reflect the different levels of understanding, with versions available from Nursery through to Year 4.
A key part of a Making Me child’s journey is our upbeat and fun ‘Resilience Workshop’, delivered to all children in years 3 – 6 by a member of the Making Me team. Children learn the value of practising resilience when they find things tricky.
Before our Making Me children leave primary school and in preparation for their transition to their next school, they are reminded of the strategies they have learnt to stay mentally and emotionally well and how to help themselves respond when faced with challenges as they move forward.
